EGFL7
Description
The EGFL7 (EGF like domain multiple 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
EGFL7, also known as Vascular Endothelial-statin (VE-statin), is a protein encoded by the EGFL7 gene in humans. The gene is located on chromosome 9 and is structured in 11 exons and introns. It is primarily expressed in endothelial cells, which are the cells lining blood vessels. EGFL7 contains several domains, including an EMI domain, two EGF-like domains, and a leucine and valine-rich C-terminal region. The first EGF-like domain resembles the DSL domain found in Notch receptor ligands. The second EGF-like domain is predicted to bind calcium ions. EGFL7 is secreted from cells and associates with the extracellular matrix surrounding blood vessels. Its expression in endothelial cells is regulated by the transcription factors Erg, GATA2, and indirectly by Fli-1. Intron 7 of the EGFL7 gene harbors the microRNA gene for miR-126.
EGFL7 is also known as NEU1, VE-STATIN, ZNEU1.
