EDC4
Description
The EDC4 (enhancer of mRNA decapping 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.
EDC4 plays a crucial role in the degradation of mRNA by facilitating the removal of the 5' cap structure. It's a key component of a complex that includes DCP2 and DCP1A, which are essential for decapping mRNAs containing AU-rich elements (AREs). EDC4 enhances the formation of this complex and boosts the enzymatic activity of DCP2, promoting efficient decapping.
EDC4 is also known as GE1, Ge-1, HEDL5, HEDLS, RCD-8, RCD8.
