ECI1

Description

The ECI1 (enoyl-CoA delta isomerase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

ECI1, also known as Enoyl-CoA delta isomerase 1, is a key enzyme in the beta-oxidation of fatty acids. It catalyzes the isomerization of both cis (3Z) and trans (3E) double bonds at the 3-position of enoyl-CoA molecules into the trans (2E) form at the 2-position. ECI1 exhibits a preference for 3Z-enoyl-CoAs over 3E-enoyl-CoAs and its catalytic efficiency is not affected by the length of the fatty acyl chain.

ECI1 is also known as DCI.
