DYNC1I2

Description

The DYNC1I2 (dynein cytoplasmic 1 intermediate chain 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

Cytoplasmic dynein 1 intermediate chain 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the DYNC1I2 gene.

The DYNC1I2 gene encodes for a protein called cytoplasmic dynein 1 intermediate chain 2, which acts as an accessory component in the cytoplasmic dynein 1 complex. This protein helps connect dynein to cargo and adapter proteins, which regulate dynein function. The complex, driven by dynein, facilitates retrograde movement of vesicles and organelles along microtubules. DYNC1I2, specifically, plays a role in binding dynein to dynactin via the DCTN1 protein, which is a component of dynactin. This binding process contributes to membrane transport, including the movement of Golgi apparatus, late endosomes, and lysosomes.

DYNC1I2 is also known as DIC74, DNCI2, IC2, NEDMIBA.
