DUT

Description

The DUT (deoxyuridine triphosphatase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

DUT can refer to the human gene DUT or the protein it encodes.

DUT, also known as dUTPase, is an enzyme that breaks down dUTP into dUMP and inorganic pyrophosphate. This prevents uracil from being mistakenly incorporated into DNA and provides dUMP, a necessary building block for thymidylate synthesis. It also inhibits the activity of PPAR by binding to its N-terminal region, blocking dimerization with retinoid X receptor. DUT is essential for embryonic development.

DUT is also known as BMFDMS, dUTPase.
