DLST

Description

The DLST (dihydrolipoamide S-succinyltransferase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

DLST is a gene in humans that encodes the dihydrolipoyllysine-residue succinyltransferase component of the 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex, a multi-enzyme complex found in mitochondria. This complex plays a critical role in cellular respiration. You can find more information on the gene, proteins, and metabolites involved by clicking on the interactive pathway map provided.

DLST encodes the dihydrolipoamide succinyltransferase (E2) component of the 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex, a multi-enzyme complex responsible for the conversion of 2-oxoglutarate to succinyl-CoA and CO2. This complex primarily functions in the mitochondria. Interestingly, a portion of the 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex also resides in the nucleus, where it plays a crucial role in the succinylation of histones. This nuclear localization involves an association with KAT2A, a histone succinyltransferase, and the provision of succinyl-CoA for histone modification.

DLST is also known as DLTS, KGD2, PGL7, PPGL7.
