STS

Description

The STS (steroid sulfatase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

The STS gene codes for the steroid sulfatase enzyme. This enzyme is involved in the metabolism of steroid hormones by removing sulfate groups from their precursors. This process is essential for the production of active steroid hormones.

Catalyzes the conversion of sulfated steroid precursors, such as dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) and estrone sulfate, to their free steroid forms. This enzymatic activity plays a crucial role in regulating steroid hormone levels.

STS is also known as ARSC, ARSC1, ASC, ES, SSDD, XLI.
