FRMD7 : FERM domain containing 7
Description
The FRMD7 (FERM domain containing 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.
The FRMD7 gene provides instructions for producing a protein whose exact function is still unknown. This protein is found in numerous tissues, but it is most abundant in brain regions controlling eye movement (like the midbrain and cerebellum) and in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. The FRMD7 protein likely contributes to the development of nerve cells in these brain areas and the retina.
FRMD7 plays a role in neurite development, potentially through the activation of the GTPase RAC1. It also contributes to the control of eye movement and gaze stability. These functions are supported by evidence from UniProtKB:A2AD83 and PubMed articles 17013395 and 23946638.
FRMD7 is also known as NYS, NYS1, XIPAN.
