SMOC2

Description

The SMOC2 (SPARC related modular calcium binding 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

SMOC2 gene encodes for SPARC-related modular calcium-binding protein 2. Mutations in this gene have been linked to major dental developmental defects. In dogs, brachycephaly (shortened snout and widened hard palate) is associated with breathing and eye disorders. This condition is correlated with a retrotransposon-induced missplicing of the SMOC2 gene.

SMOC2 is also known as DTDP1, MST117, MSTP117, MSTP140, SMAP2, bA270C4A.1, bA37D8.1, dJ421D16.1.
