Description

CERS3, also known as Ceramide Synthase 3, is a vital enzyme in the biosynthesis of ceramides, a class of sphingolipids with crucial roles in cell signaling, growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. It catalyzes the formation of dihydroceramide by transferring a very-long-chain fatty acid to sphinganine. CERS3 exhibits tissue-specific expression patterns, with particularly high levels observed in the brain, skin, and testes. Its function is intricately linked to maintaining cellular homeostasis and responding to various stimuli.
