DERL3

Description

The DERL3 (derlin 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

DERL3 plays a crucial role in the endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway, specifically targeting misfolded lumenal glycoproteins for degradation. It facilitates the retrotranslocation of these misfolded proteins into the cytosol, where they undergo ubiquitination and subsequent degradation by the proteasome. DERL3 might act as a channel during this process. Additionally, it may mediate the interaction between VCP and misfolded glycoproteins. Furthermore, DERL3 is implicated in endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced pre-emptive quality control, a mechanism that selectively prevents the entry of newly synthesized proteins into the endoplasmic reticulum and redirects them to the cytosol for proteasomal degradation.

DERL3 is also known as C22orf14, IZP6, LLN2, derlin-3.
