DLX3

Description

The DLX3 (distal-less homeobox 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

DLX3 is a protein involved in the regulation of hair follicle differentiation and cycling. It is located on chromosome 17 and is part of the Dlx gene family, which is related to the Distal-less gene in fruit flies. Mutations in DLX3 have been linked to trichodentoosseous syndrome (TDO) and amelogenesis imperfecta with taurodontism.

DLX3 is a transcriptional activator that binds to the downstream activin regulatory element (DARE) in the gene promoter to activate transcription of GNRHR.

DLX3 is also known as AI4, TDO.
