DDX6

Description

The DDX6 (DEAD-box helicase 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

DDX6 is a probable ATP-dependent RNA helicase encoded by the DDX6 gene in humans. It belongs to the DEAD box protein family, known for their involvement in RNA secondary structure alteration, translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome/spliceosome assembly. DDX6 may contribute to cell proliferation and carcinogenesis.

DDX6 is essential for the formation of P-bodies, which are cytoplasmic compartments involved in RNA metabolism. P-bodies store translationally inactive mRNAs, preventing their degradation. DDX6 plays a role in mRNA decapping, a key step in mRNA degradation. Additionally, DDX6 blocks autophagy in nutrient-rich conditions by degrading the transcripts of ATG-related genes.

DDX6 is also known as HLR2, IDDILF, P54, RCK, Rck/p54.
