DAZ4

DAZ4: A Crucial Gene for Male Fertility

Description

DAZ4 (Deleted in Azoospermia-4) is a gene located on the Y chromosome that is essential for male fertility. It encodes a protein that plays a vital role in the production of sperm. The DAZ4 gene produces a protein called DAZ4, which is responsible for the production of a number of proteins that are essential for the development of sperm. Mutations in the DAZ4 gene can lead to a number of fertility problems, including azoospermia (the absence of sperm in the semen) and oligospermia (a low sperm count).

Associated Diseases

DAZ4 mutations have been associated with a number of fertility problems in men, including:

  • Azoospermia
  • Oligospermia
  • Asthenozoospermia (poor sperm motility)
  • Teratozoospermia (abnormal sperm morphology)

Did you Know ?

DAZ4 mutations are estimated to be responsible for approximately 10% of cases of male infertility.
