CPB2
Description
The CPB2 (carboxypeptidase B2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.
CPB2 is an enzyme encoded by the CPB2 gene in humans. It is synthesized by the liver and circulates in the plasma as a plasminogen-bound zymogen. Activation by thrombin/thrombomodulin complex at Arg92 residue results in carboxypeptidase activity. Activated CPB2 reduces fibrinolysis by removing fibrin C-terminal residues crucial for plasminogen binding and activation. Carboxypeptidases are enzymes that hydrolyze C-terminal peptide bonds. This specific protein is activated by thrombin and acts on carboxypeptidase B substrates. Upon thrombin activation, the mature protein downregulates fibrinolysis. Polymorphisms have been described for this gene and its promoter region.
