The COPZ2 (COPI coat complex subunit zeta 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.
COPZ2, also known as Zeta-2-coat protein, is a subunit of the coatomer complex. The coatomer complex is a cytosolic protein complex that plays a crucial role in protein transport within the cell. It binds to dilysine motifs and associates with Golgi non-clathrin-coated vesicles, facilitating the movement of newly synthesized proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) through the Golgi apparatus to the trans Golgi network. This complex is essential for budding from Golgi membranes and the retrograde transport of dilysine-tagged proteins back to the ER. The zeta subunit, COPZ2, is believed to regulate the assembly of the coatomer complex, thereby influencing the rate of protein transport.
