COPE

Description

The COPE (COPI coat complex subunit epsilon) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

COPE may refer to: Coatomer subunit epsilon also know as Epsilon-coat protein.

The coatomer complex, which COPE is a subunit of, plays a crucial role in protein transport within the cell. It binds to dilysine motifs and interacts with Golgi membranes, facilitating the movement of proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) through the Golgi apparatus to the trans Golgi network. This complex is essential for budding from Golgi membranes and is involved in the retrograde transport of proteins back to the ER. The coatomer complex also influences the structural integrity of the Golgi, as well as the processing, activity, and recycling of LDL receptors.

COPE is also known as epsilon-COP.
