CMBL

Description

The CMBL (carboxymethylenebutenolidase homolog) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

CMBL is a cysteine hydrolase that plays a role in converting prodrugs into their active forms. Specifically, it can convert the prodrug olmesartan medoxomil into the active angiotensin receptor blocker olmerstatan in the liver and intestine. Additionally, it may activate the beta-lactam antibiotics faropenem medoxomil and lenampicillin.

CMBL is also known as JS-1.
