CIAO1
Description
The CIAO1 (cytosolic iron-sulfur assembly component 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
CIAO1 is a protein involved in the assembly of iron-sulfur clusters into proteins outside of mitochondria. It forms a complex with FAM96B, MMS19, HSC20, and ISCU to assist in this process. The CIAO1 gene is located on human chromosome 19.
CIAO1 is a key component of the cytosolic iron-sulfur protein assembly (CIA) complex, which is responsible for incorporating iron-sulfur clusters into proteins outside of mitochondria. CIAO1 interacts with different partners (CIAO2A, CIAO2B, MMS19) to facilitate specific aspects of iron-sulfur protein assembly. The CIAO1:CIAO2B:MMS19 complex assists in assembling most cytosolic-nuclear Fe/S proteins. CIAO1, in combination with CIAO2A, specifically matures ACO1 and stabilizes IREB2. It also appears to regulate the activity of WT1. Additionally, CIAO1 participates in the MMXD complex, which is linked to chromosome segregation during cell division.
CIAO1 is also known as CIA1, WDR39.
