Description
The CDS1 (CDP-diacylglycerol synthase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.
CDS1 (Phosphatidate cytidylyltransferase 1) is an enzyme involved in the production of phosphatidylinositol, a crucial signaling molecule. It catalyzes the conversion of phosphatidic acid to CDP-diacylglycerol, a key precursor for phosphatidylinositol synthesis. CDS1 is localized to both the mitochondrial inner membrane and the endoplasmic reticulum. Two genes encoding this enzyme have been identified in humans: CDS1 on chromosome 4q21 and CDS2 on chromosome 20p13.
CDS1 catalyzes the conversion of phosphatidic acid (PA) to CDP-diacylglycerol (CDP-DAG), a key intermediate in the synthesis of phosphatidylglycerol, cardiolipin, and phosphatidylinositol. It exhibits minimal acyl chain preference for PA, showing no discrimination for the sn-1/sn-2 acyl chain composition. CDS1 plays a crucial role in regulating the growth of lipid droplets, which are storage organelles central to lipid and energy homeostasis. It positively regulates the differentiation and development of adipocytes.
