CD248

Description

The CD248 (CD248 molecule) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Endosialin is a protein produced by the CD248 gene in humans. It belongs to a group of C-type lectin transmembrane receptors that participate in cell-to-cell adhesion and immune responses. While its precise function is unknown, endosialin expression has been linked to the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) in developing embryos, the uterus, and tumor growth.

May be involved in the development of new blood vessels in tumors (tumor angiogenesis).

CD248 is also known as CD164L1, TEM1.
