CCDC9

Description

The CCDC9 (coiled-coil domain containing 9) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

CCDC9 is a likely component of the exon junction complex (EJC). The EJC is a group of proteins that attaches just before exon-exon junctions in messenger RNA (mRNA). This complex acts as a marker for the arrangement of introns and exons within genes. It also plays a role in various post-transcriptional processes in the cytoplasm, including mRNA export, nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) to get rid of faulty mRNAs, and translation, the process of making proteins from mRNA.
