Carcinoma Cysticum Dysembryoplasticum Neuroepitheliale (CCDCN)

Description:

Carcinoma cysticum dysembryoplasticum neuroepitheliale (CCDCN) is a rare type of brain tumor that typically occurs in children and young adults. It is characterized by the presence of cystic areas, solid components, and immature neuronal cells. CCDCNs are usually benign (non-cancerous) and slow-growing.

Associated Diseases:

CCDCN is associated with several genetic syndromes, including:

  • Cowden syndrome: Characterized by multiple hamartomas (non-cancerous growths) in various organs, including the brain, skin, and thyroid.
  • Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome: Characterized by fibrofolliculomas (skin growths), pulmonary cysts, and potential renal tumors.
  • PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome: Characterized by multiple hamartomas, including CCNND.

Did you Know ?

According to the Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States, CCDCNs account for less than 0.1% of all intracranial tumors.
