CCDC61

Description

The CCDC61 (coiled-coil domain containing 61) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

CCDC61 is a microtubule-binding centrosomal protein that is essential for centriole cohesion, independent of the CEP250 and CROCC linker proteins. It plays a role in anchoring microtubules at the mother centriole subdistal appendages and in centrosome positioning during interphase. During mitosis, CCDC61 may regulate the organization of spindle microtubules into a symmetrical structure, potentially contributing to spindle assembly and chromatin alignment. While it has been suggested that CCDC61 is involved in CEP170 recruitment to centrosomes, this function has not been confirmed. CCDC61 has a non-essential role in ciliogenesis.

CCDC61 is also known as VFL3, hVFL3.
