CBLN4

Description

The CBLN4 (cerebellin 4 precursor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.

CBLN4 acts as a synaptic organizer, specifically within certain neuron populations in the brain. It is crucial for the formation and maintenance of inhibitory GABAergic synapses. CBLN4 promotes the development of dendrite-targeting inhibitory GABAergic synapses formed by somatostatin-positive interneurons. It may contribute to the function of the ventral medial habenula region, which is involved in regulating anxiety-related behaviors. Additionally, CBLN4 might play a role in the export and secretion of CBLN3 from the endoplasmic reticulum.

CBLN4 is also known as CBLNL1.
