MESP1

Description

The MESP1 (mesoderm posterior bHLH transcription factor 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

The MESP1 gene in humans codes for a protein called Mesoderm posterior 1 homolog (mouse). This protein is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in specifying the development of cardiovascular progenitors.

MESP1 acts as a transcription factor, influencing the development of cardiac mesoderm and the epithelialization of somitic mesoderm. It contributes to the rostrocaudal patterning of the somites by engaging in specific Notch signaling pathways.

MESP1 is also known as bHLHc5.
