LOX

Description

The LOX (lysyl oxidase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

LOX, or lysyl oxidase, is a human gene encoding a protein involved in various cellular processes. The protein, also known as protein-lysine 6-oxidase, plays a key role in the formation of collagen and elastin, essential components of connective tissues. LOX catalyzes the oxidative deamination of peptidyl lysine residues in precursor molecules of these fibrous proteins. It also regulates the expression of Ras, a signaling protein, which may suggest a role in tumor suppression. Additionally, LOX has been implicated in maintaining the structure of the aortic wall.

LOX is also known as AAT10.
