CAPN8
Description
The CAPN8 (calpain 8) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
Calpain-8 is a protein in humans that is encoded by the CAPN8 gene.
Calpain-8 is a calcium-dependent protease that is not located in lysosomes. It plays a role in membrane trafficking within gastric surface mucus cells, also known as pit cells. This protein may also be involved in the membrane trafficking of mucus cells by interacting with coat proteins. Additionally, calpain-8 is known to cleave the beta-subunit of the coatomer complex.
CAPN8 is also known as nCL-2.
