The CALY (calcyon neuron specific vesicular protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.
CALY (Calcyon) is a neuron-specific protein that plays a crucial role in calcium release from intracellular stores. It is a transmembrane protein that interacts with dopamine receptors and other G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). CALY is involved in the signaling pathways triggered by purinergic and muscarinic receptors, but not by beta-adrenergic receptors. Its interaction with these receptors enhances calcium release after stimulation.
CALY interacts with clathrin light chain A and promotes the assembly of clathrin, a protein complex crucial for endocytosis.
CALY is also known as DRD1IP, NSG3.
