CA10

Description

The CA10 (carbonic anhydrase 10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

The CA10 gene in humans encodes Carbonic anhydrase-related protein 10, a protein belonging to the carbonic anhydrase family of zinc metalloenzymes. These enzymes catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide in various biological processes. However, CA10 is an acatalytic member of the alpha-carbonic anhydrase subgroup, meaning it lacks enzymatic activity. It is thought to play a role in the central nervous system, particularly in brain development. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.

CA10 is also known as CA-RPX, CARPX, HUCEP-15.
