C4BPB
Description
The C4BPB (complement component 4 binding protein beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
C4BPB is a key regulator of the classical pathway of complement activation. It acts as a cofactor for the C3b/C4b inactivator (C3bINA) in the degradation of the complement fragment C4b. C4BPB also promotes the breakdown of the C4bC2a complex (C3 convertase) by removing the C2a fragment. Additionally, it interacts with anticoagulant protein S and serum amyloid P component. The beta chain of C4BPB specifically binds protein S.
C4BPB is also known as C4BP.
