C1orf131
Description
The C1ORF131 (chromosome 1 open reading frame 131) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
C1ORF131 plays a crucial role in the assembly of the small subunit (SSU) processome, a complex that forms the initial precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. Within the nucleolus, C1ORF131 interacts with various ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone, and ribosomal proteins, contributing to the folding, modifications, rearrangements, and cleavage of pre-ribosomal RNA. It also facilitates targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome. Notably, C1ORF131 prevents the premature recruitment of the helicase DHX37 before the post-A1 state of ribosome assembly.
