BCLAF1

Description

The BCLAF1 (BCL2 associated transcription factor 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

Bcl-2-associated transcription factor 1 (BCLAF1) is a Bcl-2 family protein encoded by the BCLAF1 gene in humans. This gene produces a transcriptional repressor that interacts with several members of the BCL-2 family. Overexpression of BCLAF1 triggers apoptosis, a process that can be suppressed by co-expressing BCL2 proteins. The BCLAF1 protein localizes to dot-like structures within the nucleus and redistributes to the nuclear envelope during apoptosis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different protein isoforms have been identified for this gene.

BCLAF1 acts as a death-promoting transcriptional repressor, potentially regulating the stability of cyclin-D1/CCND1 mRNA. It achieves this by associating with the SNARP complex, which binds to both the 3' end of the CCND1 gene and its mRNA.

BCLAF1 is also known as BTF, bK211L9.1.
