B4GALNT2

Description

The B4GALNT2 (beta-1,4-N-acetyl-galactosaminyltransferase 2 (SID blood group)) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

Beta-1,4 N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2 is an enzyme produced in humans by the B4GALNT2 gene. This enzyme is involved in the synthesis of the Sd(a) antigen, a carbohydrate marker found on red blood cells, the lining of the colon, and other tissues. You can find more information about the B4GALNT2 gene and its location within the human genome on the UCSC Genome Browser.

This enzyme plays a crucial role in the synthesis of the Sd(a) antigen, a carbohydrate determinant found on red blood cells, the lining of the colon, and other tissues. It adds a beta-1,4-linked GalNAc sugar molecule to the galactose residue of an alpha-2,3-sialylated chain.

B4GALNT2 is also known as B4GALT, GALGT2.
