The AXL (AXL receptor tyrosine kinase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

AXL may refer to:

AXL is a receptor tyrosine kinase that transmits signals from the extracellular matrix into the cell by binding to the growth factor GAS6. This interaction regulates various physiological processes, including cell survival, proliferation, migration, and differentiation. Upon ligand binding, AXL undergoes dimerization and autophosphorylation. Subsequent activation leads to the phosphorylation of several downstream proteins, including PI3-kinase subunits (PIK3R1, PIK3R2, PIK3R3), GRB2, PLCG1, LCK, and PTPN11. Additional substrates include CBL, NCK2, SOCS1, and TNS2. Recruitment of GRB2 and phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase regulatory subunits by AXL activates the AKT kinase. GAS6/AXL signaling is involved in diverse processes such as endothelial cell survival during acidification, optimal cytokine signaling during human natural killer cell development, hepatic regeneration, gonadotropin-releasing hormone neuron survival and migration, platelet activation, and regulation of thrombotic responses. It also plays a role in inhibiting Toll-like receptors (TLRs)-mediated innate immune response.
