ATP8B4

Description

The ATP8B4 (ATPase phospholipid transporting 8B4 (putative)) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

ATP8B4 is a component of a P4-ATPase flippase complex that uses ATP hydrolysis to transport aminophospholipids from the outer to the inner leaflet of various membranes. This transport activity maintains the asymmetric distribution of phospholipids in these membranes. It is likely that phospholipid translocation plays a role in vesicle formation and the uptake of lipid signaling molecules.

ATP8B4 is also known as ATPIM.
