ASCL3

Description

The ASCL3 (achaete-scute family bHLH transcription factor 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

ASCL3 acts as a transcriptional repressor, suppressing myogenesis. It plays a key role in progenitor cells differentiating into ductal and acinar cell lineages within the salivary glands, but not myoepithelial lineages. ASCL3 contributes to the function of microvillar cells and Bowman's glands in the olfactory epithelium. It is also implicated in the development or regeneration of a complete olfactory epithelium, likely through a non-cell-autonomous mechanism.

ASCL3 is also known as HASH3, SGN1, bHLHa42.
