The ARF5 (ADP ribosylation factor 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.
ADP-ribosylation factor 5 is a protein encoded by the ARF5 gene in humans. It belongs to the ARF gene family, which encodes small guanine nucleotide-binding proteins that stimulate the ADP-ribosyltransferase activity of cholera toxin and play a role in vesicular trafficking and activation of phospholipase D. The ARF gene family includes 6 ARF proteins and 11 ARF-like proteins. ARF proteins are categorized into classes I, II, and III, with members of each class sharing a common gene organization. The ARF5 gene spans approximately 3.2kb of genomic DNA and contains six exons and five introns. ARF5 has been shown to interact with ARFIP2.
ARF5 is a GTP-binding protein involved in protein trafficking and may play a role in vesicle budding and uncoating within the Golgi apparatus.
