AQP6

Description

The AQP6 (aquaporin 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

Aquaporin-6 (AQP-6), also known as kidney-specific aquaporin, is a protein in humans encoded by the AQP6 gene. This protein is a water channel within cells, belonging to the aquaporin family, a group of small integral membrane proteins related to the major intrinsic protein (MIP or AQP0). AQP6 is specifically found in the kidney. This gene and related family members AQP0, AQP2, and AQP5 are located together on chromosome 12q13.

AQP6 is also known as AQP2L, KID.
