APOL3

Description

The APOL3 (apolipoprotein L3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

Apolipoprotein L3 is a protein encoded by the APOL3 gene in humans. It is expressed in the gut and possesses antibiotic properties. This gene belongs to the apolipoprotein L gene family. The protein resides in the cytoplasm, where it might influence lipid movement or mediate the attachment of lipids to organelles. Notably, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) upregulates the expression of this gene in endothelial cells lining both normal and atherosclerotic iliac artery and aorta. Six transcript variants encoding three distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.

APOL3 is also known as APOLIII, CG121, CG12_1, apoL-III.
