Description
APOBEC1 (Apolipoprotein B mRNA Editing Enzyme, Catalytic Polypeptide 1) is a fascinating enzyme that plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism by catalyzing the deamination of cytidine to uridine in the mRNA of apolipoprotein B (apoB). This process leads to the production of a truncated form of apoB, apoB48, which is essential for the assembly and secretion of chylomicrons, the primary carriers of dietary lipids. While primarily known for its role in lipid metabolism, APOBEC1 has also been implicated in other cellular processes, including DNA repair and inflammation.
