AP1M1

Description

The AP1M1 (adaptor related protein complex 1 subunit mu 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

AP-1 complex subunit mu-1, encoded by the AP1M1 gene in humans, is the medium chain of the trans-Golgi network clathrin-associated protein complex AP-1. It forms a complex with beta-prime-adaptin, gamma-adaptin, and AP1S1, located at the Golgi vesicle. This complex connects clathrin to receptors in coated vesicles, which are involved in endocytosis and Golgi processing. AP1M1 interacts with VAMP4 and AP1G1.

AP1M1 is a subunit of the clathrin-associated adaptor protein complex 1 (AP-1). This complex plays a crucial role in protein sorting within the trans-Golgi network (TGN) and endosomes. AP-1 mediates the recruitment of clathrin to membranes and the recognition of sorting signals within the cytosolic tails of transmembrane cargo molecules.

AP1M1 is also known as AP47, CLAPM2, CLTNM, MU-1A, mu1A.
