ANO2
Description
The ANO2 (anoctamin 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
Anoctamin-2 (ANO2) acts as a calcium-activated chloride channel (CaCC) that is involved in amplifying olfactory signals. When odorant molecules bind to odor-sensing receptors (OSRs), calcium levels increase, activating ANO2. This, in turn, amplifies the depolarization of OSR cells. ANO2 may also play a role in amplifying light perception in the retina.
ANO2 is also known as C12orf3, TMEM16B.
