AAR2

AAR2

Description:

AAR2, also known as Androgen Androgen Receptor 2, is a protein encoded by the AAR2 gene. It belongs to the nuclear receptor superfamily and plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression in response to androgens, which are male sex hormones. AAR2 is primarily expressed in the cells of the prostate, breast, and other reproductive tissues.

Associated Diseases:

Prostate Cancer: AAR2 is a key player in prostate cancer development and progression. Overexpression of AAR2 is associated with increased cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis in prostate cancer cells.

Breast Cancer: AAR2 is also involved in breast cancer, particularly in estrogen receptor-negative and androgen receptor-positive subtypes. Elevated AAR2 levels have been linked to resistance to hormone therapy and worse patient outcomes.

Endometrial Cancer: AAR2 overexpression has been implicated in the development of endometrial cancer, a type of uterine cancer.

  • A study published in the journal "Nature Genetics" found that men with a common genetic variant in the AAR2 gene had a 25% lower risk of developing prostate cancer.
