ZBTB18
Description
The ZBTB18 (zinc finger and BTB domain containing 18) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
ZBTB18 is a transcriptional repressor that is involved in various developmental processes, including myogenesis and brain development. It plays a key role in myogenesis by repressing the expression of ID2 and ID3, two inhibitors of skeletal myogenesis. ZBTB18 also controls cell division of progenitor cells and regulates the survival of postmitotic cortical neurons. It specifically binds to the consensus DNA sequence 5'-[AC]ACATCTG[GT][AC]-3', which contains the E box core, and recruits chromatin remodeling multiprotein complexes to regulate gene expression. ZBTB18 may also be involved in the organization of chromosomes in the nucleus.
ZBTB18 is also known as C1DELq42q44, C1DELq43q44, C2H2-171, DEL1Q42Q44, DEL1Q43Q44, MRD22, RP58, TAZ-1, ZNF238.
