NFIA

Description

The NFIA (nuclear factor I A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

NFIA (Nuclear factor 1 A-type) is a protein encoded by the NFIA gene in humans. It belongs to the NFI family of dimeric DNA-binding proteins, which share similar DNA-binding specificity. NFI proteins act as transcription factors in cells and are involved in adenovirus DNA replication. The NFIA family is diverse due to multiple genes, alternative splicing, and heterodimerization.

NFIA recognizes and binds to the palindromic sequence 5'-TTGGCNNNNNGCCAA-3' found in both viral and cellular promoters, as well as in the origin of replication for adenovirus type 2. This binding capability allows NFIA to individually activate both transcription and replication processes.

NFIA is also known as BRMUTD, C1DELp32p31, CTF, DEL1P32P31, NF-I/A, NF1-A, NFI-A, NFI-L.
