LDB3 : LIM domain binding 3

Description

The LDB3 (LIM domain binding 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

The LDB3 gene provides instructions for making the LIM domain binding 3 (LDB3) protein. LDB3 is found in heart (cardiac) and skeletal muscle, specifically within the sarcomeres, structures crucial for muscle contraction. It binds to other proteins and stabilizes Z-discs, rod-like structures within sarcomeres. Z-discs connect neighboring sarcomeres to form myofibrils, the building blocks of muscle fibers, providing strength during muscle contraction and relaxation. Multiple versions (isoforms) of the LDB3 protein are produced from the LDB3 gene.

LDB3 acts as an adapter protein in striated muscle, connecting protein kinase C signaling pathways (through its LIM domains) to the cytoskeleton.

LDB3 is also known as CMD1C, CMH24, CMPD3, CYPHER, LDB3Z1, LDB3Z4, LVNC3, MFM4, ORACLE, PDLIM6, ZASP.
