CIZ1
Description
The CIZ1 (CDKN1A interacting zinc finger protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
CIZ1 is a zinc finger DNA binding transcription factor that plays a role in cell cycle regulation. It interacts with CIP1 (p21 / CDKN1A), a protein involved in cell cycle arrest, and may regulate its cellular localization. CIZ1 has been implicated in the development of lung cancer, as an altered form of the protein is produced by lung cancer cells. Studies in mice have shown that CIZ1 deficiency leads to increased neuronal DNA damage and cognitive decline with age, suggesting a role for CIZ1 in maintaining genomic stability and neuronal function.
CIZ1 regulates the location of CIP/WAF1 within cells.
