SPG21
Description
The SPG21 (SPG21 abhydrolase domain containing, maspardin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.
Maspardin is a protein encoded by the SPG21 gene in humans. It was discovered through a two-hybrid screen using CD4 as a bait. Maspardin binds to the hydrophobic C-terminal region of CD4, which is involved in suppressing T cell activation. This interaction is facilitated by the noncatalytic alpha/beta hydrolase fold domain of Maspardin. Therefore, it is believed that Maspardin regulates the stimulatory activity of CD4. Maspardin is known to interact with CD4.
May act as a negative regulator in T cell activation triggered by CD4.
