NTRK2

Description

The NTRK2 gene, also known as the tyrosine kinase receptor type 2 gene, encodes for the neurotrophic tyrosine kinase receptor type 2 (TrkB) protein. TrkB is a crucial component of the nervous system's development and function. It plays a vital role in neuronal survival, differentiation, and synaptic plasticity. TrkB binds to neurotrophins, like brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), triggering intracellular signaling pathways that regulate cell growth, survival, and neuronal communication. Mutations in the NTRK2 gene can lead to various developmental and neurological disorders.

Associated Diseases

Did you know?

TrkB receptors are involved in learning and memory processes, and their activation by BDNF is thought to contribute to the positive effects of exercise on cognitive function.
